Whole Venue Closure from 10am - Saturday 30 November 2024 re-opening at 10am - Saturday 1st February 2025. There will be strictly no entry to the venue during this period unless approved by MSEP.

Join textile artist Svenja within her pop-up exhibition 'Wearable Waste' at Gatakers Creative Space.

Our Artist in Residence program provides time and space for artists to explore new ideas and create new works, as well as experimenting with their art forms whilst interacting with the local community.

Drop in throughout the day to see Svenja in action.

About the Artist

Svenja, a Brisbane-based textile artist, has made a significant impact in the World of Wearable Art (WOW) competition, with 12 accepted entries from 2008 to 2019, garnering 6 awards, including the International Award for Australia and the South Pacific in 2014. Her accolades also include the Major Award in paper on skin in 2018 and recognition in the Wearable Art Mandurah. In 2023, she showcased her work at the POSE festival in Townsville. Her artistic practice, often aligned with fine arts, is featured in the TEXTILE Fibre Forum Magazine, where she authors a regular column titled ‘Situation Svenja.’ Additionally, in 2019, she participated in a 5-week Artist Residency at the King Island Cultural Centre, resulting in the exhibition "Algalrhythms," which travelled to four regional galleries in Queensland.
