A collection by Brian Mooney capturing a variety of medias including oil, watercolor, and pencil from Ireland and Australia.

Brian Mooney is an accomplished artist and folk musician born in Peak Hill, NSW in 1930. He spent much of his childhood growing up on the Murrumbidgee River at Hay, until the outbreak of World War 2 when he and his family left for Sydney. Brian later studied at the Julian Ashtons art school in Sydney before heading for Melbourne where he began to paint seriously and play Irish and Australian folk music in some of the well-known folk clubs at the time including Frank Traynors.

He returned to the Australian Outback working as a cane-cutter and bridge-builder travelling as far north as Cape York Peninsula before migrating to Ireland where he played folk music with some big names such as The Clancy Brothers, Christy Moore and The Dubliners.  His experiences inspired him to capture some of the people, music sessions and landscapes in a variety of medias including oil, watercolor, and pencil.  His work has been presented in both Ireland and several Australian galleries in Melbourne, Sydney, and Launceston where he now resides.

His story and work have been recognized in numerous publications including The Craft and Art international and 40 Degrees South magazines as well as the ABC’s 7:30 Report.
